frequently asked questions

what are the benefits of not using insurance?

utilizing your insurance does have the benefit of lower out of pocket costs for your mental healthcare. however, insurance also does require a mental health diagnosis after our first session meeting. using your insurance for billing gives your insurance company a say in how long, often and type of treatment they will cover for your mental healthcare. by forgoing to use your insurance, you have the most autonomy in determining what is best for your mental healthcare.

how do I find the right therapist for me?

finding a therapist you connect with is essential for your recovery and treatment. to find the right therapist for you, explore the therapists' biography, their history, treatment approaches and specialities in what they work with. most therapists offer a free brief consult where you can discuss questions you have to make your experience successful.

what should I expect in the first session with you?

prior to your first session, I will have you fill out intake paperwork so I can review a brief background. during our first session we will go over your paperwork in more detail so that I can learn more details of what is bringing you in, your hopes for our time together and collaboratively decide a treatment plan. we will also naturally go over some formalities such as confidentiality.

I will also disclaim the first session I will do more talking than I typically do in our sessions together.

you're a marriage and family therapist, can you work with me individually?

my training as a marriage and family therapist lends me a systemic lens to work with individuals, couples and families. a systemic lens means I understand and take in the context of your upbringing and different areas of your life so that I can better understand what is occurring and driving symptoms you are experiencing. we don't live in silos as human so what brings us into therapy often isn't a silo-ed problem either. we all have different patterns that impact the different areas and relationships in our lives and I love helping people discover and shift those patterns.

how often should I come?

I prefer to work collaboratively with you so together, we will determine a treatment plan that includes frequency to best serve your needs. I often recommend for the first 4-6 sessions to meet weekly and then re-evaluate needs to determine if spacing out appointments would be beneficial.

can I cancel or reschedule an appointment?

I understand life happens and may interfere with ability to make appointments; if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you must give at least 24 hours notice before your scheduled appointment time to avoid getting charged for a late cancel.
